BJP leader's son, his pals held for attacking cop, home guard

A BJP leader's son and his three friends were arrested on the charge of assaulting a constable and a home guard on duty in the early hours of Sunday in Malleshwaram. The arrested were drunk, the police said.

The prime suspect Karl Marx (21) is the son of Chi Na Ramu, national general secretary of the BJP SC Morcha. Three other suspects are Chetan (20), Keshav (23) and Shreyas (23).

They assaulted Umesh (24), a constable of Malleswhwaram police station and Rudresh (26), a home guard. Umesh is being treated at KC General Hospital, while Rudresh was treated as an outpatient, said the police.

The suspects had gone to Viking, a family restaurant on 8th Main, 15th Cross, Margosa Road, Malleshwaram on Saturday night. The four, who were drunk, created a ruckus there over drinking water. The restaurant workers thrashed them and sent them out.

"Around 1.30 am, Umesh and Rudresh, who were on night patrol, noticed commotion at the restaruant and went there. They instructed the four youths to behave properly. However, the suspects abused our staff in foul language," a senior police officer told DH.

They snatched Umesh's lathi and hit him repeatedly. They also hit Rudresh on his face when he went to Umesh's rescue. The duo informed the Hoysala staff who rushed to the spot, detained the suspercts and shifted Umesh and Rudresh to a hospital, the officer said.

The police have booked the four for assaulting the police and preventing them from discharging their duties.

Meanwhile, the suspects too lodged a complaint against the manager and workers of Viking. As the restaurant was open till 1.30 am, beyond the stipulated time, the police have booked a case against it under the provisions of Karnataka Excise Act for violating license conditions.
