Nifty ends at fresh record 10,153 on global cues

Riding on positive cues from the global markets, the NSE benchmark Nifty advanced 68 points to hit a record closing high 10,153.10 following renewed buying interest.

Overseas, European markets were higher as global investors returned to riskier assets amid cooling geopolitical tensions. Asian markets closed higher following positive lead from the Wall Street.

The Nifty opened higher at 10,133.10 and moved in a range of 10,171.70 and 10,131.30 before closing at 10,153.10, a rise of 67.70 points, or 0.67 per cent.

It saw an intra-day movement of about 40.40 points.

Barring the Nifty PSU Bank sector lost 0.23 per cent, all other sectors ended in green with Media up 1.81 per cent, followed by Infra 1.27 per cent, auto 1.22 per cent, Pvt Bank 1.04 per cent, Bank 0.82 per cent, Metal 0.72 per cent, Realty 0.70 per cent, Finance Service 0.53 per cent, IT 0.47 per cent and FMGC 0.28 per cent.

Major Index gainers were InfraTel, Bajaj Auto, IndusInd Bank, IbulHsgFin, Hindunilver, Eicher Motor and Vedl.

Losers were Tata Steel, ONGC, Tata Power, Ambuja Cement, ITC and SBIN.

The broader indices performed well with the Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices posting gains of 0.72 and 1.22 per cent, respectively.

The market breadth, indicating the overall health, was tilted towards the gainers. On the NSE, 1,042 stocks advanced, compared with 666 stocks declining and 76 stocks remaining unchanged.

Total securities that hit their price bands were 163.

Turnover in the cash segment fell to Rs 28,780.71 crore from Rs 34,741.23 crore last Friday.

A total of 14,224.59 lakh shares changed hands in 9,661,532 trades. The market capitalisation of listed firms on the NSE stood at Rs 1,35,09,863.39 crore.
