JOIN USCracking the whip, the Centre has decided to ban entries of offline transactions on the National Agriculture Market web portal after this month.
Agriculture Secretary S K Pattanayak has written to chief secretaries of 13 states that have operational eNAM, the government’s showpiece initiative in agri-marketing reforms that forms part of the Prime Minister’s seven-point agenda to double farmers income by 2022.
Officials said it was observed that offline trade at the wholesale market yards were entered into the eNAM web portal and passed off as online transactions. “The portal has been provisioned to not allow any offline entries post September 30,” officials said.
As of August, as many as 455 mandis across 13 states have been integrated with eNAM, which is used for trading in 90 commodities.
As many as 47 lakh farmers, 91,000 traders and 48,000 commission agents are registered with the eNAM portal that is aimed bringing in transparency in agri-marketing.
