Futsal shifts to Bengaluru

Last Updated 18 September 2017, 18:58 IST

After entertaining many in Mumbai over the weekend, the Premier Futsal League will kick-start its Bengaluru leg at the Koramangala indoor stadium on Tuesday.

The quick and cheeky form of the game will start with hosts Bengaluru Royals taking on Mumbai Warriors in the opener while Telugu Tigers will lock horns with Kerala Cobras in the second game of the day.

The Bengaluru unit, led by the Manchester United legend Paul Scholes, showed glimpses of their quality in their opening game against Kerala on Saturday and will hope to build on that performance in front of their home fans on Tuesday.

Bengaluru, with three points, are placed second on the points table while Delhi Dragons, a team that features the Brazilian legend Ronaldinho, sit on top with six points from their two games.

While Scholes wasn’t the menacing force that he once was in that opening tie, the Englishman banked on his vast experience and cheeky skills to enthrall the audience and also set up his team-mates with juicy scoring opportunities.

Benefiting from playing along side the talent in Scholes was Johnathan in the opening game. A defender by trait, Johnathan scored two of the four goals that the Royals scored past a hapless Kerala side in that opening game. And he would hope to continue that run against the Warriors too.

While the Royals were in fine form in their opening game, the Warriors were felt to thank their stars after eking out a close win over Kerala.

With a win and a loss in the Mumbai leg means the Warriors are fourth on the points table with three points and will look to surge ahead with a quality show against the Royals.
