Headmaster booked under Pocso Act

A government higher primary school headmaster at Hallihole in Shankaranarayana has been arrested on charges of sexually harassing six girl students.

Police said the accused, Srinivas Joshi, aged 58 years, is a resident of Airabailu at Siddapura in Kundapur. He was working as the headmaster of the school for 5 years. Police said that the accused had been allegedly harassing girls for the past 2-3 years but the cases had gone unreported as the girls did not inform their parents. However, when the accused misbehaved with a few more students, the girls complained to their parents last week following which, the parents complained to BEO Nityanand Shetty. The BEO visited the school and held an enquiry during which, the headmaster was found guilty of sexually harassing the girls.

A complaint has been filed in Shankaranarayana police station. Police arrested the accused on Tuesday afternoon and booked him under POCSO Act.

Thieves return stolen jewellery

In an interesting turn of events, thieves, who had decamped with 99 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 13,000 cash from a house at Adumaroli last Saturday, returned all the jewellery on Monday.

According to the members of the house, two persons riding a motorbike, threw the bag containing the gold inside the premises of the house on Monday afternoon. The thieves also placed a chit along with the bag advising the members of the house to safeguard their jewellery in a bank locker. The house belongs to Shekhar Kunder and Tilottama Kunder.

Pedestrian killed in mishap

A 48-year-old pedestrian died on the spot after a truck hit him on NH-66 in Kota on Monday.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Ismail Kaka. The incident occurred when Ismail was waiting to cross the road. Rash and negligent driving is said to be the cause of the accident. A case has been registered in Kota police station.

5 held for robbing store

DCIB sleuths arrested five accused from Nepal in connection with the Shiroor Gold Palace Jewellery robbery case which was reported on April, 4, 2017.

The arrested have been identified as Shiva Singh Bahadhur, Kamar Singh Soudh, Ramesh Singh Parki, Hark Bahadur Soudh and Prem Bhadur Soud hailing from Dibayil taluk of Silgadi Doti district of Nepal. The sleuths recovered three kilograms of silver ornaments worth Rs 1.80 lakh from the accused who confessed to the crime.

Mobiles seized in prison

Police raided the district prison in Mangaluru and seized two mobile phones, three sharp items, one small ganja packet, two hooka type plastic bottles, a mobile charger and electric wire extension chord. The raid was conducted by a team of 129 men and 50 officers led by DCP Hanumantharaya.

Students injured in road mishap

Two students riding on a two-wheeler were injured in a road mishap at National Highway 66 in Ucchila, Ullal on Tuesday. The injured are Prajwal (19), a resident of Talapady and Dhanush (22) from Kumpala. When they were returning after refueling, a car bound for Kerala, rammed against their vehicle, they said. The injured are being treated at a private hospital in Thokkottu.
