On my pinboard: Sagarika Ghatge

Last Updated 20 September 2017, 17:44 IST

Actor Sagarika Ghatge rose to fame with her character Preeti Sabarwal in her debut film ‘Chak De! India’, after which there was no looking back for her. Behind the glamorous avatar of a star, Sagarika is also a national-level athlete.

Apart from Bollywood movies like ‘Rush’, ‘Miley Naa Miley Hum’, ‘Fox’ and ‘Irada’, she has also acted in a Punjabi film ‘Dildariyaan’ and a Marathi movie called ‘Premachi Goshta’.

Sagarika is all set for her next movie ‘Haadsa’, which also features Gulshan Devaiah.

Movie: ‘Scent of a Woman’
“Talking about favourites, the first movie that comes to my mind is ‘Scent of a Woman’. I remember watching this movie during one of my acting workshops. It was also one of the films that we studied and has hence stayed with me all along. The kind of acting Al Pacino has delivered is a treat to the eyes.
The character is visually challenged and the way Al Pacino has essayed the role is something extraordinary.

‘Lagaan’ is another movie that I have thoroughly enjoyed watching. It was one of those few first few sports-based movies that I had watched and being a sports person, it really interested me.”

Travel: Italy
“I love travelling and exploring new places. Every time I visit a new place, I feel that place is prettier than the previous one I had gone to.

Italy has always fascinated me a lot. I had also gone to West Indies recently and the Caribbean was so beautiful.

Closer home, Rajasthan has its own charm. To visit the places we have always learned and read about is always a different experience.”

Cuisine: Japanese
“I am a foodie and it also plays an important part of my travel plans. I love to experiment with food or at least try different kinds of food. I like Japanese, Thai and Indian cuisines. ‘Prawn sushi rolls’ and ‘Tempura rolls’ are some of my favourites. When it comes to Indian cuisine, I am a big fan of biryani. I have a sweet tooth too and can eat anything that is sweet.”

Book: ‘The Glass Palace’
“I used to read a lot earlier. Unfortunately, it has gone down a lot. Though I don’t read any author in particular, the last book I picked up was ‘The Glass Palace’ by Amitav Ghosh. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it as it was an easy read. To be frank, I don’t like reading very complicated books.”

Inspiration
“There’s no particular person that I look up to for inspiration. I admire people who stand up for themselves and have made a mark on their own. There are many people in my life who have inspired me in varied ways.”

Musician: A R Rahman
“I am a big fan of A R Rahman and his work. He is a great musician and his works are always a pleasure to listen to.”
