Farmers seek ban on soft drinks made by MNC's

Urge support for desi drinks made using vegetables, fruits

 Members of Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene staged a protests near the Deputy Commissioner’s office, urging support to health drinks manufactured by Indian companies, using agricultural products like vegetables and fruits here on Friday.

The farmers took out a protest march from the Hemavathy statue up to the DC’s office and demanded a ban on soft drinks, manufactured by multinational companies. They also staged a protest for a while, displaying fruits, greens, vegetables and tender coconuts.

The protesters said that a large number of soft drinks and fruit juices, manufactured and processed by foreign companies, are available in the market, posing a threat to the health of people.

The government should ban the sales of soft drinks, across the state on lines of Tamil Nadu government, and extend support to local manufacturers. Priority should be given to desi products, they stressed.

The government has failed to bail out the farmers, who are suffering due to drought and crop loss.

An intensified protest will be staged by Raitha Sangha members, if no action is taken in this regard, they warned.

Dialysis unit

The protesters also demanded dialysis units at government hospitals in all taluk headquarters to help BPL card holders and other poor patients. With diabetes, heart and kidney ailments on a rise, advanced and affordable treatment is the need of the hour, they stressed.
