An odyssey to Rajasthan

It’s a lazy Saturday morning and you’re craving for some authentic North Indian food but don’t know where to head to? If so, ‘Kota Kachori’ is the place to be.

Trying to bring in the flavours of Kota, Rajasthan to Bengalureans, Robin Jain set up this eatery two-and-a-half-years ago. It is quite popular with those who like snacks, authentic ‘chaats’, combination meals and sweets. “My father runs a business in Kota, and we wanted to bring the authentic taste of Kota to the South. As the name suggests, our highlight is the ‘Kota ki kachori’. We also have many interesting quick bites to our credit,” he says.

The unique feature of the ‘Kachori’ is that it has ‘urad dal’ with a touch of ‘hing’, which is good for digestion. “All our food items have a touch of Rajasthan. Our ‘Aloo pyaz kachori’ is also a favourite of many,” he says. The place also has a variety of ‘namkeens’ to take away.

The ‘Pav bhaji’ is yet another item that is a hit with customers.

“The Jaipuri version of ‘Pav bhaji’ is different as ‘bhaji’ is a mix of different spices and has a distinct flavour. The ratio of the vegetables and the spices are different,” he says.

“Our traditional food like ‘poori sabji’ has many takers here. People come from near and far to share a platter,” he says. The ‘thalis’ are unique. “‘Kadi rice’, ‘Paneer paratha’, ‘Chola rice’, ‘Premium thali’, ‘Special thali’ and the ‘Jaipuri thali’ make our menu an all-inclusive one,” he says.

The eatery also has a different section called ‘Falahaar’, which can be consumed during a fast.

“The food is made with elements which befit the ‘Navaratri’ fast and other such occasions too. The specials at this place include ‘Sabudana dahi vada’, ‘Sabudana khichdi’, ‘Kalakand’, ‘Rasmalai’ and ‘Rasgulla’,” he adds.

The north of India is known for its sweets and the eatery has an array of choices.

“For the sweet lovers, there is the ‘Jalebi’, which is only served hot and prepared in front of the customer and our traditional sweet, ‘Ghevar’.”

For those who like a fuller dessert option, there is the ‘Iceacream falooda’, which should not be missed.

For those who are health- conscious, there are ‘bejad ki roti’ which is made of five types of grain. If you just want an evening snack, there are ‘chaats’ like the ‘Papadi chaat’, ‘Dahi vada’ and ‘Golgappa’.

After a proper meal, one can sit back and relax with a ‘Makkhania Lassi’, which is the perfect end to a great meal. The place is seen bustling with people, especially youngsters.

The eatery has two floors and the first floor can seat up to 50 people. It is a self-service space.

‘Kota Kachori’ is located at 635, 100 Feet Road, 6th Block, Koramangala.
