The family of 19-year-old polytechnic student Sharath Niranjan got to know about his murder on Thursday night.

On Friday morning, they went to Kurubarapalya Bande, a quarry pit in Ajjenahalli in Ramanagaram district, along with the Jnanabharathi police and other officials. When his decomposed body was exhumed, the family were inconsolable.

Forensic experts conducted the post-mortem on the spot and handed over the body to the family. The family later conducted the funeral.

Sharath’s uncle Chandrashekar said he had suspected his friend’s hand soon after he was kidnapped on September 12. “But we never imagined Sharath would be murdered. He was the only son of his parents and they had many dreams about him but his death has shattered them,” he said.

Sharath’s father, V Niranjan Kumar, is a senior officer in the Income Tax Department. Sharath went missing on the evening of September 12, soon after he left home on his new Royal Enfield Classic bike.
