A 50-year-old businessman from Nandini Layout, North Bengaluru, has reported receiving a Rs 2 crore extortion call from two unknown phone numbers.

Satyaprakash R, who has several business ventures in the city, got the first call from a number with the ISD code +44 at 3.15 pm on September 19. The caller, speaking Hindi, asked him to pay up Rs 2 crore or get ready to face the consequences. Satyaprakash ignored the call, thinking it a prank. +44 is the ISD code of the United Kingdom.

The person called again the same day and abused him. He warned the businessman against ignoring the demand and set a deadline for making the payment. The caller further said that if Satyapraksh failed to pay up or approached the police, he would be killed.  The alleged extortionist called a third time on the night of September 19. This time the number started with +60 (Malaysia) but the voice was the same. The caller asked Satyaprakash to take the matter “very seriously or he would be dead”.

Satyaprakash filed a complaint at the Sadashivanagar station. Police believe the extortionist was in Bengaluru and making calls from the Internet .
