JOIN USShreyal Telang and Spoorthy MV clinched the Seniors singles titles at the 2nd RS Shakunthala memorial State-ranking table tennis tournament on Sunday.
In a nervy final, Telang kept his cool to beat Rakshith Barigidad of Canara Bank in six sets.
After losing the opening set cheaply 7-11 Telang displayed his quality to pocket the following two sets 11-9, 11-5.
But that didn’t break Barigidad’s spirit as he rallied to win the fourth 11-4 and draw level.
However, that was the last time that the Canara Bank paddler held an upper hand as Telang swicthed gears and won the following two games 11-8, 11-7 to claim the title.
In the women’s segment, Spoorthy was stretched to the distance before set prevailed 11-13, 11-9, 9-11, 14-12, 11-6, 10-12, 11-8 over Samyuktha A to win the title.
