Four children died of burns they sustained after a kerosene stove burst at a petty shop at Fattu Nayak thanda in the taluk on Monday evening.
Two children identified as Preetham Santhosh and Rithika Lokanath, both aged 3 years, died on the spot, according to police.
The other two-Rithesh Lokanath, 4, and Akshatha Venkatesh, 3, breathed their last on the way to a hospital.
The incident occurred when the children had come to the shop to buy eatables and Veerashetty Govind Nayak, 40, the shopkeeper, was pumping the stove to light it.
Nayak suffered severe burns and has been admitted to the Chitaguppa primary centre in neighbouring Bidar district.
