Govt teachers seek pay parity

 Associations of government school teachers of Karnataka submitted their demands like pay on par with Central government teachers, time-bound promotion, and special pay for rural teachers, to the pay commission on Monday.

The association members held a discussion with commission chairman M Srinivas Murthy.

“Primary schools have 1.66 lakh teachers. Workload and pressure is increasing.

One teacher engages two classes for at least six subjects, along with other responsibilities such as making arrangements for mid-day meals, Ksheera Bhagya.

However, there is a pay difference of 112% between central and state government teachers,” Basavaraj Gurikar, president of Karnataka State Primary Teachers Association told the chairperson.

The association also demanded that teachers who are working in economically and socially backward rural schools and should receive a special pay.
