Agriculture Minister Krishna Byre Gowda visited the krishi honda located in the field of farmer Venkanna Yarashi in Bannikoppa village in Yalburga taluk in Koppal district on Tuesday.

The district has been receiving copious rain for the past few days, and all the lakes and streams, and agri ponds are filled to the brim. All the ‘krishi hondas’ (agri ponds) in the village have also filled up. The minister offered pooja (bagina) to the agri pond located in Venkanna’s field durinbg his visit to the village on Tuesday.

Later, speaking to reporters, Mr Krishna Byre Gowda stated that he had visited the village earlier, and had declared the village as ‘model krishi bhagya village’.

“More than 350 agri ponds were constructed in the village under the ‘Krishi Bhagya’ scheme. Almost all the ponds constructed in the village have filled up now since the region has received good rain in the past few days. This has given an assurance to the farmers of the village that they could harvest good crops during the Rabi season. Therefore, we can see that the smile has returned to the faces of the farmers here. This is satisfying as the government scheme ‘krsihi bhagya’ had a hand in this,” said Mr Krishna Byre Gowda.

“The insurance payment for the Rabi crops starts in October, whereas the insurance for kharif crops begins in July. We will look into the complaints against the banks regarding the non-acceptance of the applications from the farmers. At present, we are more concerned about the payment of insurance for the kharif crops. The banks are crediting the insurance amount to the crop loans, which is compulsory as per the order of the Government of India,” the minister said.

Replying to a query on the survey which ranks Karnataka first in the country on corruption, the Minister stated that the entity which conducted the survey was not an established one.

“This seems to be the handiwork of BJP in New Delhi. There is no substance in the findings,” he added.

Some posts in Agriculture Department in Koppal district are still vacant. This is delaying the implementation of several projects and schemes. Recruitment of 607 posts in the department will be carried out shortly, and the proposal to recruit 200 additional staff is under the consideration of the government, he informed.
