Alcoholic man attacks wife's private parts with hot iron

A 28-year-old man allegedly placed a hot iron on the private parts of his wife when she refused to bring dowry and threatened to divorce him.

On Sunday night, Dilip Kumar, of Janakiram Layout, East Bengaluru, came home drunk and picked a fight with his wife, Jaqueline (26).

He accused her of having an extramarital affair. The spat soon turned ugly, and neighbours rushed in to intervene. Both Kumar and Jaqueline calmed down only when neighbours threatened to call the police.

Jaqueline went into a bedroom to sleep with her two children while Kumar went to retire in the hall.

Around 2.30 am, Kumar woke up and started banging on the bedroom door. Jaqueline retorted that ‘enough is enough’ and that she cannot live with him anymore.

She further said she had decided to apply for divorce the next day.

After a while, Kumar bolted the bedroom door from outside and switched on the iron. He opened the door when the iron became hot and ran towards Jaqueline. He attacked her with the iron, inflicting burns on her abdomen, thighs and private parts.

Jaqueline’s screams drew the neighbours and they rushed her to a hospital. She was later treated at Dr BR Ambedkar Hospital before being discharged.

She went to the jurisdictional Banaswadi police station and filed a complaint against her husband.

Police booked Kumar under IPC section 326 (voluntarily causing hurt) and produced him before a court which remanded him in judicial custody.

Misunderstanding

“The couple got married four years ago and have two children. In the beginning, they were happy but developed misunderstandings lately. Kumar became alcoholic and started selling off household items for his liquor. He suspected that Jaqueline had kept her jewellery with her parents and wanted her to bring it back,” a police officer said.
