The government will open Indira Canteens in all districts, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday, while inaugurating various developmental works in Mahalakshmi Layout Assembly constituency.

“The government has already opened 100 Indira Canteens in the city and the remaining 50 will be opened on October 2 and 47 more canteens will be launched during Karnataka Rajyotsava. If land is not available, the government is ready to open canteens in rented buildings. Indira Canteens will be constructed in all major government hospitals in the city to provide hygienic meals to poor patients,” the chief minister said.

The chief minister questioned why the BJP, which was in power for five years, did not develop the city. “After the Congress came to power in the BBMP, it has provided Rs 7,300 core for the city, including Rs 1,000 crore for rajakaluves alone,” he added.

Taking credit for Bengaluru’s Dynamic City tag, Siddaramaiah said, “The city has earned the tag of the most Dynamic City in the world and our government will ensure Brand Bengaluru’s image is projected world wide. If we come to power again, all roads will be white-topped in the next five years.”

“We have given permanent jobs and increased salaries of pourakarmikas to Rs 17,000 a month. We plan to provide 10,000 litres of water free to slum dwellers every month. Considering the increasing population of the city, the government is planning to split BBMP into five divisions in the coming years,” he said

Siddaramaiah alleged that the BJP is known for corruption and its leaders, who went to jail, are now spreading lies about the Congress government.

Mayor G Padmavathi, Bengaluru Development Minister K J George, Home Minister R Ramalinga Reddy and BBMP commissioner Manjunath Prasad were present.
