It is learnt from party sources that five corporators have expressed their desire to contest  the poll. While many senior Congress leaders, including ministers Ramalinga Reddy, K J  George, D K Shivakumar, R Roshan Baig and H M Revanna, are backing R Sampathraj, the corporator from Deevarajeevanahalli ward, Dinesh Gundu Rao is in favour of L Govinda Raju, who is a three-time corporator from Subhash Nagar ward in Gandhinagar Assembly segment.

Other names doing the rounds are Velu Nayakar, the corporator from Lakshmi Devi Nagar ward who is being backed by Bangalore Rural MP D K Suresh, Rajarajeshwari Nagar MLA Munirathna and Yeshwanthpur MLA S T Somashekar.

However, Dinesh Gundu Rao has told the corporators that they should abide by the decision to be taken by the senior leaders at a meeting to be held on Wednesday. The meeting will be chaired by KPCC president G Parameshwara.
