Last Updated 30 September 2017, 18:25 IST
A large number of spectators, tourists, streets-lit with lights and Dashamantapas highlighting mythological themes were the highlights of Dasara Shobhayatre taken out in the city on Saturday night.

After watching the world famous Jamboo Savari in Mysuru, the tourists started thronging Madikeri in the evening to get a glimpse of Dashamantapa procession at night.

With the increase in density of vehicles, the traffic was disrupted in the city. People were seen standing on commercial complexes, bus tops and beside the road to get a closer view of the procession.
There was hardly any space for the people to stand from Kundoorumotte Sri Dandina Mariyamma Temple to Kaveri Kalakshetra. The movement of vehicles on the stretch was prohibited from afternoon itself. The procession started from Pete Sri Rama Mandira Mantapa. All the tableaux had attractive lightings.

The number of tourists visiting the city increased and almost all the hotels and homestays were booked. Brisk business was seen at Race Course Road, private bus stand and Gandhi Maidan.

The district administration had banned the sale of liquor on Friday and Saturday within 10-km radius of Madikeri, Suntikoppa and Kushalnagar.

The police had beefed up security for the Shobhayatre. Under the guidance of the SP, three DySPs, nine inspectors, 21 PSIs, 51 ASIs, 319 constables, 55 women constables, 9 platoons of DAR, 3 platoons of KSRP, one Vajra platoon looked into the security in the city. Further, 40 CCTV cameras were installed at strategic locations.

A large number of tourists visited Rajaseat, Mandalpatti, Talacauvery, Bhagamandala, Omkareshwara Temple, Dubare and Kaveri Nisargadhama.

Dashamantapas that took part in the Shobhayatre were Sri Pete Srirama Mandira, Dechooru Sri Rama Mandira, Sri Dandira Mariyamma, Sri Chowdeshwari, Kote Mariyamma, Sri Kodanda Rama Mandira, Karavale Bhagavathi, Kote Ganapathi, Chowti Mariyamma and Kanchi Kamakshiyamma.
