Showers continue to lash a few districts

Rains receded in most parts of the state, even as a few districts did report short spells of showers on Tuesday.

Mild showers lashed Belagavi city and surrounding villages for about 30 minutes.

Humid conditions prevailed during the day hours after mild showers late on Monday night. During the evening hours, mild showers poured for about 30 minutes, bringing down the temperatures. People on the streets and in the market areas were caught unawares.

Most parts of the twin districts of Davangere and Chitradurga received torrential rains Monday night, accompanied by strong winds, leading to waterlogging in agriculture fields and low-lying areas. Most of the minor and major lakes, check dams got filled across the two districts.

Low-lying areas and the old Davangere residential area were the worst hit. Davangere district received a record of 63 mm of rainfall on Monday night. This is the second highest rainfall received in the district in the last decade. Traffic was affected in several parts of the district as the roads were flooded.

Water overflowed from defunct borewells due to improvement of ground water level at Chikkamadure in Challakere taluk of Chitradurga district. Challakere, Hosadurga, Holalkere , Hiriyur, Dharmapur, Bharamasagar and other parts of the district received moderate to heavy rains.

Showers accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed Kalaburagi district on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

Intermittent but heavy rain lashed Chincholi taluk. Light showers lashed Chittapur, Aland and Sedam taluks. In the last 24 hours (ending 8.30 am on Tuesday), the district received an average rainfall of 8.8 mm. Tur crop was damaged in Chittapur and Chincholi taluks.

Heavy downpour was reported across Gadag district, flooding crops at many places. Power supply was hit as electricity lines snapped. Rudrappa Veerappa Bhavi, 54, was struck dead by lightning at Chikkoppa village in Gadag taluk.
