Potholes playing role of terrorists in city, BJP tells George

Last Updated 04 October 2017, 20:01 IST
BJP state spokesperson and Rajajinagar MLA S Suresh Kumar on Wednesday wondered why ‘murder charges’ should not be framed against the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) as the ‘killer potholes’ in the city have claimed human lives by the day.

In a strongly worded letter to Bengaluru Development Minister K J George, Kumar has said potholes on Bengaluru roads are successfully executing the work of ‘terrorists’ and accused the minister of turning a blind eye to the pathetic condition of roads. Kumar stated that according to BBMP’s own admission there are 15,935 potholes on Bengaluru roads.

Deadlines not met
Several deadlines had been set to fill the potholes but nothing much has happened on the ground. Citizens had started a ‘contest’ to identify the biggest potholes on Bengaluru roads, but the BBMP had remained ‘shameless’, he stated. Instead, the civic agency boasted of achieving several goals under the leadership of the minister.

Kumar sought to know from George why coordination meetings with different civic agencies including BDA, BWSSB, Bescom, had not taken place for the last eight months. These meetings were supposed to happen once every 15 days.

Basic coordination
“As minister of Bengaluru development are you finding it difficult to ensure basic coordination among the agencies?” Kumar asked in the letter.

The BJP leader has sought that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike take immediate steps to improve the condition of roads before more lives are lost.
