Opposing the announcement of degree exam time table by Karnatak University, Dharwad (KUD) even before completion of the syllabus, students under the aegis of ABVP staged a protest at Bhoomreddi Circle in Gadag on Friday.

Hundreds of students from various colleges took out a huge protest rally from Betageri bus stand to P B Road through Zhenda Circle, Station Road and Gandhi Circle. They formed a human chain and raised slogans against Karnatak University for its unscientific time-table.

The students said that the presently announced time-table must be dropped and a revised time table must be declared according to which the exams must begin after November 20. They also demanded that one or two days gap must be maintained between every paper.

"As per the time-table announced presently, the exams of first, third and fifth semester of BA, BCom, BSc, BSW, BCA, BBA and other degree courses will begin on November 2 and conclude on November 25. However, even 50% of syllabus of Arts, Commerce and Science courses has not been completed. Also, the principles of the colleges under Karnatak University have been instructed to complete the preliminary exams between October 16 and November 2. But holding final exams before the completion of the syllabus is not scientific. Due to the mistake of the university, hundreds of students will be made to suffer", the protesters said.

The students raised voice against the university and later submitted a memorandum in this regard to the tahsildar. They demanded that the presently announced time-table must be withdrawn and a revised one must be announced soon. They warned of a stern protest in case their demand is not met.

Students Umesh, Adish, Aishwarya, Komal, Madhu, Krishna, Shivu and others were present.
