The much-awaited white topping of 29 major roads and six major junctions along a stretch of 93.47 km under the Nagarothana scheme was inaugurated by Bengaluru Development Minister K J George near Jnana Bharathi campus main gate on Mysuru Road on Monday.

"We have chosen six lanes near Majestic, to begin with. This stretch of 10 km in total will be developed according to the TenderSURE project," said Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike commissioner N Manjunath Prasad.

The contract has been given to Amruth Constructions. Speaking at the event, George said, "All the major roads in Bengaluru will be white-topped within a few years. This is according to the special direction given by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. All information about the project will be uploaded on the BBMP website. A detailed project report is ready for the Rs 22,000-crore elevated corridor project," said George.

Prasad also said these roads will have a provision for laying optical fibre cables and drainage system so that agencies like BWSSB need not dig up the road every now and then. "The work will be completed in eight months," he said.

Nayandahalli, Goraguntepalya, Hebbal, Yeshwantpur main road are some of the main roads chosen for the TenderSURE project.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee working president Dinesh Gundu Rao, Mayor R Sampath Raj and other senior officials were present at the programme.

No BBMP split for now

George said the government has sent a resolution on splitting the BBMP to the President. "We have not got any response so far. Hence, there is no plan to split the BBMP now. We will not split the BBMP during the election year. When our party comes back to power next time, the BBMP will be split,” George.
