Law officers, activists attacked while inspecting slaughterhouses

A team of law officers, advocates and animal rights activists was attacked by a mob of over 100 when it was on an inspection of illegal slaughterhouses.

They were attacked despite being accompanied by 35 policemen in a vehicle.

Advocates H V Harish and D P Prasanna, public prosecutor S Rachiah, and two volunteers Kavitha Jain and Joshine Anthony were attacked by the mob. S Rachiah said DH it was a miracle that he and other members of the court-appointed team survived the savage attack.

“The mob was about to torch the vehicle in which we were sitting.” he added.

He said that they were visiting the slaughterhouses for inspection following the high court’s directions. At three places, we did not face any problem. But when the team reached a two-wheeler garage at DB Halli near Yelahanka New Town, they faced a hostile crowd.

Plaint registered

A complaint has been registered at the Yelahanka New Town police station.

Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Seemant Kumar Singh, said, “Following the high court directions, law officers, NGOs and police went to inspect the illegal slaughterhouses in the Yelahanka New Town police station limits. Locals protested against the inspection and damaged the two police vehicles but nobody was injured in the incident. The Gau Gyan foundation had registered a complaint.
