Following continues rain from last two weeks, a minor bridge constructed on Hirehalla at Bennihalla village in Mundargi taluk, has been washed away. The checkdam located nearby too has been breached and the water has gushed into several fields causing damage to the crops.

The inflow to Hirehalla has been increased following good rains at Adavisomapur in Gadag taluk, Kavalur in Koppal and Kappatgudda. The stream passing through Bennihall village, joins Tungabhadra.

The villagers allege that the bridge work was sub-standard and hence, it has been washed away due to swelling of stream.

They also complained that the officials have constructed sub-standard checkdams at Mundargi, Shirhatti and Laxmeshwar and hence, these checkdams too have been breached. They held the contractor responsible for taking up shoddy work.

They said, lakhs of rupees irregularities have taken place in construction of bridges and checkdams and the local MLA should answer for this. Indirectly, the officials hand-in-glove with contractor have looted the government money. They demanded a high-level probe into the irregularities and see that the offenders are punished.

Adding to this, CMC member Basavaraj Ramenahalli said, irregularities have taken place even in construction of a tank at HUDCO colony and hence, Lokayukta probe should be ordered, he demanded.

He further alleged that hundreds of checkdams have been constructed in Shirhatti assembly constituency and crores of rupees have been misused. The middle-men have made away with large government funds, he noted.
