Youth electrocuted

A 23-year-old person was electrocuted while tying a Deepavali wishes banner at Janata Colony here on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Ravikumar Korapati, son of BJP Slum Morcha leader Laxman Korapati.

He came in contact with a live wire while tying a banner, and he later died at the hospital, Keshwapur police said.

30 held for gambling

City police have arrested 30 persons on charges of gambling in last two days in the twin cities, and recovered around Rs 19,000 cash from them.

Kasabapet police caught eight persons near Gabbur bypass, and recovered Rs 13,290 from them. Bendigeri police in Hubballi and Town police in Dharwad also arrested 8 and 14 persons respectively on charges of gambling.

As a practice, many people try their luck in gambling by playing cards, during Deepavali celebrations.

Cheating alleged

A girl has lodged a complaint with Keshwapur Police Station, alleging that one Kishor of Sai Layout at Bengeri here has cheated her by refusing to marry her after the engagement.

The girl has complained that the accused is absconding, and his mobile phone is also switched off, police said.
