Senior JD(S) leader and MLC Basavaraj Horatti has taken exception to the presiding officers of the two houses going to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s chamber seeking funds for the diamond jubilee celebration of Vidhana Soudha.

In a strongly worded letter to Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy and Assembly Speaker K B Koliwad, Horatti stated, “Both of you hold constitutional posts. It is your responsibility to uphold the dignity of your office. It is not a question of Rs 26.87 crore grants to meet the expenditure of the celebrations, it is a question of propriety. Never in the history of the state legislature have the presiding officers acted in this manner.”

Horatti also said the proposal to put in place a new security apparatus around Vidhana Soudha and Legislators’ Home be dropped. “We are elected representatives and the people have the right of meet us,” he stated.
