HC disallows plea for PIL in mutt case

Last Updated 19 October 2017, 19:49 IST

The Principal City Civil and Sessions Court disposed of a petition seeking permission to file a public interest litigation (PIL) before the high court to issue directions to appoint an administrator to the Sri Ramachandrapura Mutt, saying seer Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swami is not eligible to continue as chief of the mutt.

The court disposed of the petition on the grounds that there is no mention in the court order that the seer committed rape and refused to grant permission to file a PIL seeking appointment of an administrator.

Prashanth Kumar M B and Lokesh N filed a petition alleging that the seer was involved in many cases and he has no right to continue as chief of the mutt.

The court observed that there are no witnesses or evidence for the allegations and in the order. Under these grounds, the court said it cannot grant permission to file a PIL and disposed of the petition.
