Kiran Bedi shares false video of PM Modi's 'mother', apologises after outrage

Last Updated 20 October 2017, 09:06 IST

Update: Kiran Bedi has tendered an apology for the post, admitting the mistake in identifying the old lady in the video:

Original story:

Kiran Bedi is probably one of India's most well-known bureaucrats, being the first woman to make the IPS and become India's highest-ranking woman bureaucrat. However, it seems, even she, for all her intelligence and experience, is not immune to sharing unverified information on the internet.

Just recently, Kiran Bedi shared a video of an old lady dancing to some festive tunes at her home with the caption: "Spirit of Deepavali at tender age of 97. She's mother of @narendramodi (Hiraben Modi -1920) celebrating Diwali at her own homešŸ‘‡šŸ¼@SadhguruJV", claiming that she is in fact, Hiraben Modi, the mother of Narendra Modi.

She even tagged Sadhguru of the Isha Foundation, who has thus far not made any action on the tag.

However, not long after sharing the tweet, some people came forward, calling her out on her sharing wrong information on the internet.

Even someone from the Congress managed to chip into the call-out, with a rather detailed tweet, photos and all, to cement his reply in fact:

(Translates to: "Honorable Kiran Bedi ji displaying a performance in sycophancy by sharing fake video. The BJP has already shared such fake stories.")
