Man held for making lewd gestures at undercover lady cops

A 22-year-old man was arrested for making inappropriate gestures at woman constables who were in disguise to catch those sexually harassing women.

Hayaz Pasha was arrested from Coles Park near Fraser Town. Several women had complained to the Bharathinagar police that they faced sexual harassment from a few antisocial men during their walks in the park. Based on this, the police drew up a plan to tackle the problem.

Constable Lakshmibai Vaghpodi and Home Guard Pushpa wore chudidars and went to the park around 5.30 on Wednesday evening. "Pasha made inappropriate signs at Lakshmibai and Pushpa. The two waited till they confirmed that Pasha made similar gestures at other women. Once he indulged in the act again, a Hoysala rushed to the spot and caught him," a police officer said.

A resident of Tannery Road, Pasha works as a painter. In his statement to the police,Pashasaid he was waiting to pick up his bike which he had given for servicing. He went to the park and was apparently drunk at the time, the police said. Pasha was booked under IPC 509 for outraging the modesty of women.

Vehicle catches fire

The engine of a Tata Ace vehicle accidentally caught fire in front of Cubbon Park police station at 8.20 pm on Friday. The driverescaped unhurt. Fire and emergency personnel were called and by the time they reached to the spot, the vehicle was completely burnt.
