Additional Commissioner of Police (traffic) R Hithendra has ordered a departmental inquiry against 15 police officers for allegedly collecting money by issuing invalid receipts for not showing vehicle documents.

Hithendra said that, he had directed the Inspectors, PSIs and ASIs to fine the traffic rule violators for riding without helmet, jumping signals and such.

"But some of the officers were unnecessarily stopping motorists and demanding documents for no reason. We found 15 such officers who gave motorists invalid receipts and collected fine. I have sent them notices and asked them to explain why they did so," Hithendra added.

The previous City Police Commissioner Praveen Sood had issued a circular directing all the traffic police not to stop the motorist unnecessarily or just to check vehicle documents and cause inconveniences to them.

But the circular was followed only for some days and soon after he was transferred, police officials started stopping motorists for no reason.

Hithendra issued notices after preliminary reports against these officers.

Hithendra also said that, motorists should insure their vehicles compulsorily which would be useful in the event of an accident. The traffic police have booked one crore traffic offenses in the last 10 months the additional CoP said.
