Expo of 30 artists' works begins

Legislator Capt Ganesh Karnik said no proper facilities are available for artists to showcase their talents in the coastal region.

He was speaking after inaugurating an exhibition of recent works by 30 artists held as part of silver jubilee celebrations of Artists' Forum Udupi at S Cube Art Gallery here on Saturday.

Capt Karnik said the coastal region has several artists of international repute and standard.

Stating that an artist explains his artwork through colours, Capt Karnik said that an artist has the capacity to unravel a world that no one has seen.

He also called upon the artists to exert pressure on the government to set up an art gallery in Mangaluru.

Bunts Mathru Sangha women's wing President Dr Asha Jyothi Rai and artist Nemiraj Shetty were present.

The exhibition is open to the public until November 11 between 10.30 am and 8 pm.

Works of artists Ramesh Rao, Bhaskar Rao, Permude Mohan Kumar, Purushotham Adve, H K Ramachandra, Saku Pangala, Liyakat Ali, Jayavanth, Kundan G, Jeevan Shetty, Venky Palimar, Veena Srinivas, Rajendra Kedige, Sharath Palimar, Janardhan Havanje, Santhosh Pai, Manjunath Maiya U, Srinath Manipal, Shiva Hadimani, Sindhu Kamath, Nagaraj Hanehalli, Vignesh Kalathur, Sathish Chandra S S, Arun Amin, Ganesh K, Kurshid Yakub, Mustafa K P, Shailesh Kotian, Vasanth Devadiga and Pavan Kumar Attavar are on display.

Artists' Forum of Udupi is a voluntary organisation devoted to the cause of promotion of visual arts. The organisation aims at developing human resources in the field of arts. The Forum was born out of the collective will of over 50 artists of Udupi and surrounding areas who felt the need for pooling their inner resources and enthusiasm to culturally enrich the society through an organisation set up while pursuing their chosen art.
