Community Radio Sarang 107.8 FM is all set to have a transgender on board to compere programmes as a radio jockey in Mangaluru. Kajal, a native of Mandya, will also produce programmes from November 21.

The segment has been rightly titled 'Shubha Mangala' (Well-being). "This is perhaps the first experiment in Coastal Karnataka. Many say we must give opportunities to transgenders and bring them to mainstream but not many practice what they preach," a release stated.

Kajal has been living in Brahmavar. She has studied upto PUC and is pursuing her degree through distance education. She aims to become an IAS officer.

A multifaceted personality, Kajal is a dancer, beautician and has been actively involved in theatre and TV productions.

Kajal said that, "Manjunath Kamath of MGM College has been motivating her to come up in life."

"Transgenders too aspire to live with dignity. There are many talents among them. Through Radio Sarang, we are encouraging Kajal to hone her broadcasting talent. Society needs to consider transgenders as human beings just like anyone else and encourage them to take up any trade they like. It is only this way that they can live a normal life like anyone," Dr Melwyn Pinto, Associate Director of Radio Sarang said.
