JOIN USMadikeri: The first additional district and sessions court has sentenced two persons to life imprisonment on the charge of murder.
The accused are Rakesh of Changulanda in Hudikeri and Deena of Kannandabane. They were also asked to pay a fine of Rs 7,500 each. For damaging the evidence, they were told to undergo five years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 2,500 each. It is said that Rakesh and Deena had murdered Deena's husband Prasanna on February 8, 2010.

71 cases registered
Madikeri: As many as 71 cases have been registered against illegal sand mining jointly by the police, mines and geology and revenue officials in the district so far, said SP P Rajendra Prasad.
In a press release, he said that was illegally extracted from the banks of river Cauvery, Harangi, Lakshmanatheertha and Barapole. As many as 10 vehicles have also been seized, he added.
