Nandi Hills to host Epic Road Race

Last Updated 15 November 2017, 20:21 IST

Nandi Hills will host the Nandi Epic Road Race for cycling elite and masters on November 18  between  6 am and noon.

The 112.3 km long cycling event will be flagged off by Dr K Sudhakar, Chikkaballapur MLA. Earlier, a similar cycling expedition was conducted on July 1 and 2. Vehicles were prohibited during the expedition.

This time, the race will be held for 270 minutes (close to five hours). There will also be a shorter version of the 68.7 kms race for amateurs, women and those below 18 years.

The race is a part of the Bangalore Bicycle Championships 10th Race of the season, on the Bengaluru- Hyderabad National Highway (NH-7). It is also a part of the initiative to make Nandi Hills an eco-tourism destination.

"We expect more people to join the race this time when compared to the earlier event. The idea of organising such events is to reduce vehicular movement, increase the safety of travelers and tourists, encourage cycling, trekking and jogging to Nandi Hills, Sudhakar said.

Speaking ahead of the race, Dr Arvind Bhateja, Spectrum Racing, said that the bicycle championship at Nandi Hills has been drawing cyclists from all over the country who compete in various podiums and categories.
