Godzilla: Monster Planet sequel title revealed, teases classic adversary

As of today, the new animated Godzilla film, titled Monster Planet (or Planet of the Monsters, take it as you will) is released in Japan (it's due on Netflix for sometime next year).

The sequel is titled 'Godzilla: Decisive Battle: Mobile Breeder City', whose poster was given to attendees of Monster Planet, showing a key art of some human characters looking upon a wreck (or perhaps the raw material) of a magnificent machine, the ultimate in anti-Godzilla weaponry: Mechagodzilla.

Mechagodzilla has long been a classic adversary of the King of Monsters. Introduced in 1974's Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla, the metallic doppelganger has been portrayed as both an alien creation to kill Godzilla, and twice as a human creation to kill Godzilla in 1992's Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla and 2002's Godzilla against Mechagodzilla.

The first film follows a group of people who were forced to leave Earth when a half-century war against rampaging kaiju came to an end with the arrival of Godzilla, but are then forced to return (with a bunch of alien allies) when their predicted new home turned out to be uninhabitable, only to find that over 20,000 years have passed on Earth and Godzilla has literally become the King of Earth.

'Godzilla: Decisive Battle: Mobile Breeder City', the second in a planned anime Godzilla trilogy, is due in May 2018, and it follows that Netflix will also stream this film. The first film is written by Gen Urobuchi, who has also penned the popular Japanese anime Madoka Magica and the light novel series Fate/Zero.
