Mandya Utsava in Delhi

A host of artistes are getting ready to highlight the tradition, culture, literature and politics of Mandya district, in the national capital on December 9 and 10.

As part of the district's golden jubilee celebration, city-based Karnataka Sangha has organised the two-day 'Mandya Utsava,' on the Sangha premises in New Delhi. More than 100 artistes, politicians, intellectuals and writers will participate in the Utsava to highlight the significance of Mandya in various fields.

Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda will inaugurate the event, Deputy chairman of the Legislative Council Marithibbegowda, MLA D C Thammanna, former MLA M Srinivas and others will participate.

As part of the Utsava, events such as special lectures and symposia have been organised. While H S Muddegowda will deliver a lecture about Mandya and its culture, MLC K T Srikantegowda will deliver a lecture on Mandya's politics. Sangha president Jayaprakashgowda will speak about Mandya's contribution to literature and education. The artistes will perform folk arts, dramas and present light music.

On Day One, the artistes will stage the play 'Paaduka Kireeta,' theatreperson Gangadhara Swamy will direct it. Artistes Ramesh, Kaasaravadi Suresh, Hulivanada Srikantegowda, Kalenahalli Kenchegowda and others will be part of the play. Urugavadi Ramaiah, Manjula and others will present folk songs on the same day. Nityashree, Bhagyashree, Disha Jain and Chandrahas will present light music.

On Day Two, students of Sadvidya School will stage the play 'Shudra Tapasvi' and perform folk arts. The valedictory ceremony will be held in the evening.

Union ministers D V Sadananda Gowda, H N Ananth Kumar and Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjuna Kharge will attend the event.
