Writer Chandrashekara Patil (Champa), also the president for the 83rd All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelan, has said that regional political parties would work towards the welfare and development of Kannada language. Patil said that the literary fest will help in identifying problems faced by Kannada language and create awareness among people.

Addressing a gathering during the release of the book 'Champa Sahitya', and a symposium organised by Ananya Publication at Sarada Vilas Educational Institutions here on Sunday, Champa said that regional parties protect Kannada language as opposed to national parties who neglect regional languages. National parties have proved to be a failure in this regard, he said. "I had supported Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP), which was headed by the present BJP state unit president B S Yeddyurappa in 2013, for the welfare of Kannada," he said. Speaking about the literary festival, he said that such conventions bring to the fore and help in creating awareness about the problems being faced by Kannada language. Champa said he is ready to work for the development of Kannada.

Kannada should get priority in Karnataka, Champa said. The writer called upon Kannada speaking people from across the state to stay united for the welfare and development of the language. Lauding Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP), he said, KSP is an institution which has been serving as per the democratic values.

Explaining about Kannada Kriya Samitis, he said the samitis were established across the state during the Gokak movement but many of them are inactive.

However, the samiti in Mysuru is active and has been organising several pro-Kannada events, he added. Champa also appreciated the 'City of Palaces' and said that in Mysuru, there is more awareness about Kannada language.

Activist Pa Mallesh released the books. Sarada Vilas Educational Institution president B S Parthasarathi, publication president Subramanya and others were present.
