The University of Mysore (UoM) will offer free education to the children of martyred soldiers.

The Academic Council members, in a meeting chaired by UoM in-charge Vice Chancellor Dayanand Mane on Monday at Crawford Hall here, decided to provide free education from under-graduation to PhD level.

The varsity will provide free hostel, food and education facilities to the students, who get admission at the UoM and a fee concession will be given for those students, who join private institutions, affiliated to the UoM.

The state government had urged the UoM to offer free education from UG to PhD for daughters of martyred soldiers, who died in Uri attack in 2016. But the varsity has decided to offer free education for all children of martyred soldiers from the next academic year.

Mane, who is completing his term as in-charge VC on November 22, thanked all the members for their cooperation, during his 10-month tenure.

UoM Registrar D Bharati, Registrar (Evaluation) J Somashekar, and Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Board (PMEB) Director Yaswant Dongre were present.
