Last Updated 20 November 2017, 19:31 IST

The government has stopped allowance of Rs 2 per day of attendance given to girls of first standard in government schools.

Announced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the programme was implemented in 2014-15 and 2015-16 and the money was released for two years. However, the incentive has stopped since then.

"The programme has stopped as we have not received funds over the last two years," said Department of Public Instruction (Primary) Director B K Basavaraju.

Under the programme, a child will be paid Rs 2 for each day she has attended the school. The money was deposited into the bank account of her parents at the end of the academic year. Siddaramaiah announced the programme after becoming chief minister in his Independence Day speech in 2013.
