Indira Canteen, which provides subsidised food is set to go 'food on wheels' in the 24 wards of the city.
Unable to find land to build canteens, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to operate mobile canteens in this wards.
Canteens will have a dedicated parking area and will function in the same timings as other canteens. BBMP has already set up 151 canteens across the city.
According to Manoj Rajan, special commissioners BBMP and in-charge for Indira Canteens, said "A BBMP tender was floated on Tuesday for mobile canteens. Food for this canteens will be supplied from the same kitchens where other canteens are provided.
"The mobile canteens may be opened by this year-end or January 2018," he added.
The canteen will be tracked by GPS and amenities like purified drinking water and CCTV cameras will also be installed on it. Mobile canteens will be built on the trucks were similar design and colour of Indira Canteen is used.
