Fun Facts about Deccan Herald Theatre Festival 2017

Last Updated 23 November 2017, 15:21 IST

1. This is one of the oldest theatre festivals in Bengaluru. In fact, the idea of a theatre fest by Bengaluru-based theatre-artists was pioneered by Deccan Herald in the late 80's. The Deccan Herald Theatre Festival has grown to become one of the most-awaited events in the city.

2. In keeping with the objective to promote and encourage young theatre talent in the city, this year's edition of DH Theatre Festival takes it a notch higher with the 'Inter-Collegiate Theatre Fete'. Through this initiative, the DH Theatre Fest gives Bengaluru college-students a chance to share the stage with theatre veterans performing at this year's festival. Auditions were conducted at Rangasthala on 11th and 12th November to identify the finalists - St. Joseph's College of Commerce, Christ University, and Mount Carmel College - who will perform at Alliance Francaise de Bangalore as part of the DH Theatre Fest.

3. At the college auditions, over a hundred students participated. DH Theatre Fest's aim is to help provide a platform in theatre for local talent, and through collaboration with eminent theatre personalities and organisations, introduce them to avenues they can pursue in theatre.  The jury panel for the college auditions included three eminent theatre personalities: Anita Mithra, Salmin Sheriff, and Anmol Vellani.

4. The Festival has been curated by Sandbox Collective, an organization which has put together various national and international festivals including Kamshet Arts Festival.
