Speak Out is much appreciated for its wit and tongue-in-cheek counterpoints. In this four-part recap, we bring to you some editors picks of our Speak Out section. We hope this will delight you as much as it delighted us to put it together. The order is purely chronological from January until now.

The BJP has relied heavily on the Modi wave to win the 2014 general elections, and it was no surprise that the PM would chime in with his party before the UP Assembly elections.

The New Year's party this year at MG Road was mired in controversy, specifically that of women being molested while partying out and ringing in the New Year. Home Minister G Parameshwara, however, could not have been less sensitive when he dismissed the incident, saying "it happens". He drew significant flak for victim blaming.

The BJP took the UP elections by storm, sweeping a majority of seats in the state. Before this, though, the parties opposing the BJP were having a field day, mocking the party and claiming that it would be defeated. RDJ chief Lalu Prasad's statements are but one of those.

The BJP has long spoken of a 'Congress-Mukt' Bharat ever since their overwhelming victory in the 2014 general elections, but Amit Shah's statements ahead of the UP elections makes one wonder: Do they want just a 'Congress-mukt Bharat' or an 'Opposition-mukt Bharat'?

Ah, the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. An issue decades old, with exactly one bloody massacre to its name, reared its head recently, with the BJP and RSS clamouring to get the Temple built in Ayodhya, the fabled birthplace of Ram from the mythological epic Ramayana, where the mangled remains of the Babri Masjid currently stand.

Uma Bharti was one of the people present there on the day of the Babri Masjid demolition and was recently put back in the fray when the Supreme Court reinstated charges against her, Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi.
