Kashmir reels under intense cold

Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region continue to reel under intense cold wave as temperatures dipped to below freezing point at most of the places on Friday.

An official at the MeT department said Srinagar recorded a minimum of minus 2.9 degrees Celsius against Wednesday night's minus 1.7 degrees Celsius.

The famous hill resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded the lowest temperature in the Valley with minus 5.1 degrees Celsius against Wednesday night's minus 4 degrees Celsius.

Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a minimum of minus 4.7 degrees Celsius.

Leh in frontier region of Ladakh was the coldest place in the state with the night temperature dropping to minus 11.3 degrees Celsius against Wednesday night's minus 9.7 degrees Celsius, the official said.

The minimum temperature in neighbouring Kargil town settled at minus 7.4 degrees Celsius.

The MeT office has predicted dry weather in the state during the next 24 hours and further fall in night temperature during the next four days.
