Last Updated 04 December 2017, 19:55 IST

White-topping of roads led to severe traffic snarls in a few areas of the city on Monday.

Traffic jams were reported from Briand Square to CAR headquarters on Mysuru Road, Kasturi Nagar to Old Madras Road, from Babusapalya to Byappanahalli and at MEI junction on Tumakuru on Monday.

BBMP began white-topping of roads recently and on Sunday, work on the up ramp of the Sirsi Circle flyover at the Azad Nagar end on Mysuru Road began. Since a part of the road was closed for the work, Byatarayanapura traffic police and KR Market traffic police had to redirect vehicles.

"Traffic jams will continue for a some more days till white-topping work is done," said a senior traffic police officer from Byatarayanapura traffic police station.

"White-topping work has been going on for the past 15 days at MEI junction. Due to this, commuters need to drive to CMTI junction and take a U-turn. Police personnel will be posted there to direct traffic," said Kasim Raja, ACP traffic North.

Anjali (name changed), a commuter travelling from Babusapalya to Byappanahalli said: "Usually commuting from Babusapalya to Byappanahalli Metro station takes 10 minutes, but becasue of the traffic jams due to white-topping work, it took me 30 minutes ."
