Corporator's husband beats ex-IPS officer's son

Last Updated 06 December 2017, 19:15 IST

Picking a fight with the techie son of a retired IPS officer and his colleagues proved costly for the husband of a corporator.

Manjunath Reddy, the husband of Sarakki corporator Deepika L, and seven of his associates were arrested for rioting and attempted murder after they  barged into the office of an e-commerce company in JP Nagar, South Bengaluru, on Tuesday.

They also reportedly assaulted the employees.

It all started around 5 pm when 10-12  techies went to a sports ground near  a cultural club to play cricket.  Reddy and his men arrived at the ground and objected to the game, saying  the players could break the windowpanes of nearby buildings and hassle residents. He claimed he had taken up the matter following residents' complaints.

The techies promised to  be careful and kept playing.

Reddy and his men got angry and picked a fight with them, eventually making them leave.  Half an hour later, Reddy and seven of his associates barged into the company's office on 26th Main Road, JP Nagar 1st Phase, and manhandled the techies.

The techies went to the JP Nagar police station and filed a complaint. Police arrested Reddy and seven others on Wednesday.

A magistrate has remanded them in judicial custody.

Although the complainant in the case is Syed Salman, one of the techies, the son of retired  DGP (Prisons) H N Satyanarayana Rao played a key role in getting the police to register the complaint and make the arrests, a police source confirmed to DH.

Officially, however, the police refused to identify Rao's son.
