New terminal is high-tech

Can handle 300 passengers at a time

The new terminal constructed at a cost of around Rs 48 crore, as part of Rs 142 crore Hubballi Airport upgradation project, has modern facilities and it can handle 300 peak hour passengers at a time.

Spread over 3,600 square metres of area, the new terminal is a centrally air-conditioned building, which has facilities like CUTE-enabled check-in counters, flight information display system, and CCTV cameras. It has six check-in counters, two baggage conveyor belts, four x-ray baggage inspection systems, reserved lounge, elevator, and parking area that can accommodate 60 cars and 50 taxis.

Low heat gain glazing, LED lighting, double-insulated roofing system, energy-efficient chillers, construction using fly ash bricks, sewage treatment plant, and reuse of treated water for horticulture purpose are among the green features in the new passenger terminal building, according to the airport officials.

Artistic depictions of culture, history, and rural lifestyle of North Karnataka region, and portraits of renowned musicians like Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Dr Gangubai Hangal, Dr Mallikarjun Mansur, and others are displayed inside the terminal, along with the culture of Mysuru also.

Interiors of the new terminal building, and landscaping in front of it are still getting final touches, while the terminal building will be inaugurated on December 12.
