Federation welcomes import price on pepper

Karnataka Growers Federation (KGF) President B S Jairam said that the federation welcomes the decision of the central government of fixing an import price of Rs 500 per kg on pepper.

Addressing reporters here on Thursday, he said that the step will control the infiltration of low quality pepper from Vietnam.

The Consortium of Pepper Growers Organisation had submitted a memorandum to the Union Commerce Minister to apply restrictions on the import of pepper to Indian market. The measure will bring good price for Indian pepper, he added.

Grower Manohar said that the import of pepper to India should be stopped.

A permanent solution has also been sought in regards to wild elephant woes.

The Karnataka Growers Federation (KGF) has requested to chalk out a permanent solution for the wild elephant menace in Hassan, Kodagu and Chikkamagaluru districts.

Many lives are lost due to elephant attacks. Growers are worried due to crop loss caused by pachyderms. The wild elephants must be translocated, Federation President B S Jairam has urged. Dr K N Pradeep was present.
