Shravanabelagola (Hassan dist): The district administration is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a hassle-free environment for the devotees arriving here for the Mahamastakabhisheka. The new concept on the list is to provide cab service at low rates.
As lakhs of devotees and tourists are expected to visit the historical town during the festival that is held once in 12 years, the district administration is planning to rope in mobile app-based cab aggregators like Ola, Uber companies for the service. If all goes well, around 500 vehicles will be available for hiring during the month-long festivities.
There is a common complaint that tourists are fleeced by the private vehicle owners, especially during the festival times.
Those from the other states who are not well-versed in Kannada language are harassed by a few autorickshaw and cab drivers seeking more money. Hence, the administration is mulling with the idea of introducing cab service at low rates for the benefit of the tourists.
Plans afoot to include tourist places like Belur, Halebid, Sakleshpur and Bisile Ghat in the Western Ghats in the list of must-visit places of the district. Even Melkote, which is close to Shravanabelagola, will be included, sources said.
Speaking to DH, Mahamastakabhisheka Special Officer B N Varaprasad Reddy said, the district administration has already held talks with the representatives of cab aggregators and the response is good.
There will be different rates for the airconditioned and non-airconditioned cars and the lowest possible rates would be fixed, he added.
"Besides cab service, autorickshaws and two-wheelers too will be available for the benefit of people.
