This film falls in the category of soft-core ‘torture porn’ with its grisly images and extensive use of raw violence. A top model Jennifer Tree (Elisha Cuthbert) is kidnapped by a stalker who abuses her emotionally and physically in a basement with another captive Gary (Daniel Gillies).

Even as the two make several attempts to escape they are at the receiving end of a man who has been abused as a child.

The film is strikingly similar to the ‘Saw’ series and ‘Hostel’ in terms of exploitative cinema. However, ‘Captivity’ lacks in taste and is devoid of any messages.
Today’s horror movies seem to rest solely on extreme torture of the flesh than on the mind.

Director Roland Joffe who gave us the brilliant movies like ‘The Killing Fields’ and ‘The Mission’ is at his lowest.

However, there are a few clever spins in the plot and a bit of the Hitchcock’s genre of screams and music from the music director. Other than these the film is as bad as it can be. The script gets sloppy after the first half with too many flashbacks, fade-ins and fade-outs.

Very few people would find teeth pulled out with pliers and a woman force-fed with body parts entertaining. The film also blames women as the sources of all evil deeds men commit in their lives.

If, only if, you are able to digest senseless gore flicks only then take the path to the big screen.
