One should know one's duties while claiming one's rights, said district family court Principal Judge D T Devendran.

He was speaking during the World Human Rights' Day, observed by the State Human Rights Commission, the District Legal Services Authority, the district administration, the Bar Association and the District Human Rights Committee, at the district court in Chikkamagaluru on Sunday.

The judge said that the declaration for World Human Rights Day was made in 1948 in order to prevent violation of human rights after the World War II. Everyone enjoys his or her rights irrespective of caste, creed and gender, he reminded.

'Put into practice'

Bar Association district unit president B T Dushyant said that the Human Rights Day should not be confined to observing programme, but should be brought into practice in real spirit. In case of violation of human rights, one should raise their voice against it, he called upon those gathered.

City Police Station PSI (Crime) Nasir Hussain, District Human rights committee chairperson H C Nataraj and Women and Child Welfare department deputy director K C Basavarajaiah were present.
